Shell Access

Shell access allows customers to take advantage of easy maintenance of their sites in a UNIX command environment. Clients are able to roam through their sites, change permissions, move files, delete files, and debug scripts. Compiling programs is also possible. Shell access also allows for manipulation of mySQL databases. All Unix-based accounts come with one shell account.

The power of the shell...

Using terminal software such as CRT, clients can remotely log into the server and execute system commands directly from the terminal, as if the user were logged directly in from the console. Thus, Telnet is often times referred to as a terminal emulator, because it is just that.

Quick and easy maintenance

Telnet allows you direct access to your files, which can be updated and saved easily, avoiding the need to transport the files from your client to the server. Since you are working directly on the server with Telnet, any changes you make to any of your files are done right away. Thus, you can update content on your website quicker and easier than FTP in most cases.

Security in the shell...

Unlike other hosting companies who allow their clients to use a shell which allows users to access the data of other clients, our custom shell is completely secure. Our shell jails all users to their account, so you can be assured that we do not compromise security with shell access! We also use the SSH2 protocol for shell access on Gold and Platinum accounts to further ensure security of the servers and your files.
