Perl

Perl, or Practical Extraction Recursive Language, has become one of the most popular server-side scripting languages available today. Perl is used in a wide variety of applications, and is commonly used for website applications. MagnaCom maintains the latest version of Perl on all webservers and has installed commonly requested Perl modules. For NT customers we use Active Perl.

Automatically install scripts

Gold and Platinum customers can install popular Perl scripts on their account with the click of a few buttons in their web-based control panel. Such scripts include unlimited guestbooks, bulletin boards, free-4-all links, random image and sound scripts, and form mailer programs. These scripts can be copied to the user directories of Silver customers on request or downloaded from our site.

Run anywhere

Once upon a time, most programs were referred to as 'binaries', hence the name cgi-bin. In real life, most programs found in cgi-bin directories are text files -- scripts that are executed by binaries located elsewhere on the server. While most programs using CGI are stored in this directory, it is not a requirement for using CGI at MagnaCom, we allow you to put your scripts anywhere in your filespace.

The modules you need

MagnaCom maintains more Perl modules that most other webhosting companies. Perl modules allow you to extend the scripting capabilities of Perl and do specialized functions with the code. We currently have installed over 500 Perl modules on each of our webservers.

Always current!

MagnaCom understands the importance of Perl to clients. Therefore, we always update Perl to the most stable release when possible. This allows our clients to take advantage of improvements and new additions to Perl's capabilities when possible.
