Static
IP Address
The Internet works on IP addresses
which can be long and difficult to remember. This is
where names are used, so that a user who enters mclnetworks.com
is directed to 212.69.199.69. We provide all domains
hosted on our Gold package with their own static IP
address. Our Linux servers use the HTTP 1.1 protocol
to allow multiple domain hosting from the same IP address.
Do I need
my own?
Some very old browsers were designed
only to use the HTTP 1.0 protocol and therefore may
not browse your site in the way intended. For this reason
we have made sure all Gold customers have their own
IP address. We believe for most people this should not
be a problem, but for a one-off fee of £60 we can allocate
an IP address for an individual domain hosted on a Linux
server.
What are
the advantages?
A static IP address allows you
to access your website while your new domain name is
in the process of propagation or while your domain is
being transferred from another provider. It allows compatibility
with all HTTP protocols and would be necessary if you
wanted to have your own Secure Socket Layers certificate.
