Data Backups

Microsystems and security provided by Westec, clients
never risk loss of data.

Does your webhosting company have
support contracts and vendor relationships with companies
that back the products they sell? In the event of failure,
to who do they turn? Sun Microsystems support contracts
and utilisation of Sun's StorEdge L1000 tape backup
solution systems for frequent backup of client data
in our case. These units can archive over 3 Terabytes,
or three thousand Gigabytes of data and backup and restore
data at the rate of 8 Megabytes per second. Just another
sign of our commitment to quality.
Private
Network Transfers
Backing up hundreds of gigabytes
of data frequently is no simple task. Rather than congest
the network with continuous data transfers for archival
purposes, there is a separate 100 Megabit network for
the express use of data backup transfers.
Off-Site
Data Archive
An off-site data archive allows
us to retrieve data no longer than 1 week old of all
servers in the event of total destruction of the premises.
While the chances are infinitely small, we have covered
all of the possibilities to ensure client data is not
at risk.
Your
personal responsibilities
Clients are advised to make their
own frequent backup of their files as MagnaCom cannot
be held responsible for client's deletion of files,
whether intentional or unintentional. Restoration of
an individual account from the tape backups is time-consuming
and can only be performed by a system engineer and we
therefore charge at least £200 for such a service, it
can be more depending on the time involved. It is therefore
prudent for clients to keep their own up to date backups.
